Who doesn’t want to lose fat around the stomach, especially during the summer? If you want to lose fat in your stomach, it's helpful to know the best foods to target belly fat.
The Best Foods to Target Belly Fat
Before jumping into the best foods to target belly fat, it's worth mentioning that the most reliable way to lose belly fat is to lower your total body fat percentage.
However, you can focus on losing inches around your waist by eating foods that have been proven to burn belly fat.

Eggs are a great weight loss food. Yes, they are relatively high in fat, but they are also filling and only have 60-80 calories per egg.
Eggs are high in protein and essential amino acids. Plus, they are cheap!
Have three eggs in the morning with coffee instead of cereal and you may lose belly fat.
Healthy Eating Tip: Don’t eat egg whites! Eat the whole egg, including the yolk. That’s where all the essential amino acids are! It tastes better too.
Not sure about the best eggs to buy?
In my experience, the eggs from free range chickens taste WAY better than cage-free chicken eggs. It’s like the difference between 2% milk and fat free milk. The free range chicken eggs just taste better!
2. Grapefruit Packed with Antioxidants
Be glad that the grapefruit diet is no longer a fad!
However, grapefruits are still an amazing fruit for targeting belly fat. One whole grapefruit only has about 100 calories and 2 grams of fiber.
Grapefruit also has a high Vitamin C content (more than 60% of your daily need!) and powerful antioxidants. Plus, grapefruit has lycopene, which may help to prevent cancer and heart disease.
Blueberries and strawberries are your friend. No need to stay away from fruit!
Research studies suggest that eating blueberries may results in less abdominal fat and lower cholesterol.
If anything, blueberries and strawberries only have about 85 calories per cup, almost 4 grams of fiber, and relatively low sugar (compared to other fruits like pineapple, bananas, and mango).
4. Lean Meat to Add a Punch of Protein
Protein, especially lower-calorie, lean meats are key to weight loss and targeting belly fat.
Top lean meat choices include grass-fed beef, bison burgers, turkey, and lean chicken.

5. Green Veggies with Fiber, Vitamins, and Antioxidants
Everyone knows that vegetables are good for you.
Green vegetables pack essential vitamins and antioxidants, and the high fiber content of green vegetables helps keep you full.
Start adding green vegetables like spinach, spring lettuce, brussel sprouts, and cucumbers to your diet and watch your middle start to whittle down.
6. Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is my new favorite morning and evening snack. It has twice as much protein as other yogurts, and it is just sweet enough to feel like a treat.
I’d recommend staying away from the “low carb” and “low sugar” yogurts, as they often have fake sugar added to them.
Instead, stick with Chobani yogurt. My favorite flavors are peach and blueberry, and they only have 110 calories!
