If you are putting yourself on a diet, make sure to AVOID these diet foods.
10 Diet Foods to Avoid if You want to Lose Weight (#4 Will Surprise You!)
Here are the top 5 foods to avoid!
1. Low Calorie Ice-Creams (like Halo Top Ice Cream!)
I used to LOVE Halo Top ice cream, and I still do! But basically ALL the diet and low calorie ice-creams have fake sugars in them, which completely messes up your cravings.
2. Salads (at Restaurants!)
A salad may sound like a healthy choice at a restaurant, but by the time you add all the dressing, croutons, cheese, and other toppings you might as well have ordered the hamburger.
3. Gluten Free Chips
Gluten free chips are basically empty calories with little nutrition value. Have an apple with peanut butter instead. If you want something crunchy, go with fava peas or chickpeas.
4. Sugar Free, High-Protein Bars
I lost SO Much weight when I stopped having protein bars as a snack. Yes, they have lots of fiber and lots of protein, but they are also filled with fake sugar and additives.
If you want a high protein snack, go with edamame instead. If you want something sweet, have a banana or frozen mangos.
5. Diet Drinks
Avoid ALL diet drinks. Club soda is alright, but everything else has fake sugar in it. Just avoid!
6. Pineapple and Watermelon
Fruit is good for you, right? YES – it is. I eat pineapple and watermelon myself! But these fruits are high in sugar. Go with apples, berries, or peaches instead.
7. Low Calorie Granola
You’d be amazed how many calories can fit into a quarter cup of granola. Granola sounds healthy (and it is relatively healthy for you), but it has more calories than one may think.
8. Sugar Free Gum
Just say no to gum. The fake sugars mess up your cravings.
9. Meal Replacement Shakes
Avoid getting your calories through liquids. Yes, most meal replacement shakes have protein and fiber, but they just won’t fill you up like a normal meal.
If you must have a meal replacement shake, I’m a big fan of the OWYN shakes. Add to the blender with ice-cubes and a banana for a delicious treat!
10. Low Calorie Dressings
Low calorie dressings may seem alright, but they are usually filled with fake sugar as well! Instead, use balsamic vinegar, salsa, mustard, or seasoned rice vinegar on your salads.
Or, use a light balsamic vinaigrette with healthy fats.
