What to Eat to Lose Weight Quickly (Foods to Enjoy and Avoid)
4. Don’t Buy Certain Foods to Lose Weight
Have a food weakness? Just stop buying that food when you go to the grocery store!
My weakness is peanut butter (I’ll eat the whole jar in 3 days!), energy bars, and Halo Top ice cream.
Once I stopped buying these foods, my cravings slowly decreased over time. Now, I no longer have the urge to drive to Kroger at 1 am in the morning to buy four energy bars. That’s an extra 800 calories!
5. Swap out Salad Dressing (a Simple Weight Loss Tip)
Salads with lean protein make a great lunch choice. But if you add salad dressing, you might as well have a hamburger.
Alternatives to high calorie salad dressings include:
- Balsamic vinegar mixed with mustard (a zero calorie dressing)
- Salsa
- Hummus
- Trader Joe’s Tzatziki creamy garlic cucumber dip
- Marukan rice vinegar (it’s only 15 calories and has lots of flavor!)
6. Drink Water (an Easy Weight Loss Tip)
You’ve likely heard this weight loss and diet tip, and it’s because it is so true. We often confuse hunger with thirst. Drink more water, and you may feel less hungry.
You may also feel sluggish if you are dehydrated. Drink more water throughout the day, and you will start to lose weight.
I personally own the Rubbermaid BPA-free water bottle, and aim to drink two bottles a day.
7. Eat More Protein to Feel Full and Lose Weight
Protein fills you up. It also helps with sugar and sweet cravings. It’s not logical, but your body often craves sweets when in fact what it needs it protein!
Foods packed with protein include:
- Eggs (I have at least 3 a day!)
- Lean salmon (from Kroger)
- Turkey burgers or chicken burgers (from Trader Joe’s)
8. Say YES to Green Apples to Lose Weight Quickly
Apples are an amazing super fruit. They are packed with Vitamin C, they provide natural sun protection, they improve skin texture, and they are full of fiber. Green apples have slightly more fiber and less sugar than red apples, and they make a great snack.
Throw an apple or two in your purse and snack on an apple whenever you feel hungry.
I personally always carry an apple with me in case of hunger emergencies.
9. Say NO to Foods with Fake Sugar
It doesn’t matter whether it’s aspartame, sucralose, or the “healthier” plant sugar of Stevia. All are fake sugars and mess up food cravings.
Cut fake sugar out of your diet, and you will notice that your sudden hunger urges go away.
Be careful when purchasing any protein powders, energy bars, or foods with “low calorie” or “low sugar” on the packaging. Most of these foods hide fake sugar in the ingredients.
10. Treat Yourself to a Healthy Post-Dinner Snack
It’s hard to stick to a diet if you never get to treat yourself.
My go-to healthy (and sweet!) snack is slightly thawed frozen blueberries mixed with protein powder and 1% milk. Mix it all in a bowl together and enjoy!
The berries provide healthy vitamins, fiber, and natural sugar. The protein powder adds protein and vitamins, and the milk provides protein, calcium, and Vitamin D. Talk about a healthy (and tasty!) snack.
